Regal Planet
Regal Planet, was a group exhibition featured Philadelphia based artist Andrea Hornick, as well as New York based Hisako Kobayashi and Japan based Tomiya Nishimura. This show was dually curated by James Oliver Gallery and ArtMobia.
We were thrilled to bring together the works of three incredible artists, combining their lush palettes and ethereal imagery, these works played alongside HOT•BED’s flourishing greenlife. Kobayashi’s mysterious and rich oil paintings create a sea of color, where life and science are at play while Nishimura’s figures travel, primarily solo, through their own mystic landscapes. Hornick’s works alter the figures in old masters’ portraits to include spirit animal guides, while titles provide alternate interpretations and a feminist twist, acting almost as part of the piece itself.
Together the artists’ works created Regal Planet, a show which interpreted characters and colors intimately engaging with the earth and their place on it. Curated by James Oliver Gallery and ArtMobia founder Jason Peng along with horticultural design by Bryan Hoffman, Regal Planet combined history, color, the human figure and the natural world to create a reverberating presence that was not to be missed.
